Important Dates

You may order picnic lunches may be ordered the day before.Family Camp is a casual, relaxed environment but there are a few items you should consider bringing. The weather in Maine changes quickly. Layers are always a smart choice. Arcadia provides :- Sheets, pillows, pillow case, blankets, wash cloth and towels for each member of your group - A lantern and/or flashlight, tissues, cups, and hand soap in each building Items to consider beyond what you are already planning to bring: ∼ Flashlight for each members of your group∼ Beach towels∼ Beach chairs∼ Bathrobes∼ Shower caddy & shower flipflops to bring items to shower house∼ Tennis Racquets∼ Water bottles∼ Sunscreen∼ Bug spray∼ Laundry detergent (we have 4 washers and dryers)∼ Laundry bag∼ Toys or entertainment for young children∼ Beach toys∼ CoolerPlease let us know if you need a crib ∼ Summer screened cabins with many windows to provide views of the lake and pine trees.∼ One cabin per family∼ The cabins have single beds.∼ The cabins vary in size.∼ Some cabins have sinks with running cold water and toilet facilities. Others use a common sink & toilet facility.∼ Some cabins have electricity, most do not.∼ All cabins will have a flashlight and/or lantern.Early Morning Activities : We will be offering early morning activities during the week ranging from an early morning swim or canoeing to aerobics and yoga. These will run from 7 to 8 am. There will be a sign up sheet in the Main Lodge to sign up the night before for the next day’s activity.Children’s Progra m:We offer full and half day adventures each day for children ages 3 and up. The programs, geared to the ages of the children, will keep your children active and engaged. The activities for each day will be posted in the Main Lodge before supper the day before. The morning program runs from 9:30-11:30am. The afternoon program is from 3-4:30pm. Children should meet on the Rock at the Main Lodge each morning at 9:20am and each afternoon at 3pm. Generally, the group will be brought back up to the Main lodge at 11:30am & 4:30pm for pick up, unless the staff leaders indicate pick up at the beach.Our staff will take attendance each morning and afternoon for the children’s programs. We will bill you accordingly at the end of the week. The full activity program, every morning and afternoon, Mon-Fri is $200. Part time (morning or afternoon only) is $125. Children’s Nature Program Our Nature Program was developed by educator and alumnae, Louise Smith. The Nature Program centers on active exploration of the natural world. The Nature Program will be part of our children’s program outline of the previous page. Younger Children Each afternoon we'll have small adventures and hands-on projects that introduce children to their natural surroundings at Arcadia. Our explorations will include the trees, flowers, and animals that are all around us. Projects will include creating a mural with paints and with natural materials we collect during our outdoor adventures, and making toy wooden boats to "sail" in shallow waters. Older ChildrenThis group will have slightly bigger adventures in Arcadia's natural environment. We'll explore the shoreline by canoe looking for basking turtles, and have a nature scavenger/treasure hunt through the pine woods. Projects will include making simple nature journals, creating "plant fossils" by pressing small leaves, flowers or evergreen cones into clay, making animals out of clay, and making small wooden boats for lake and lakeside play.Adult Program: We are offering activities throughout the week for adults. This is very casual. You may drop in for anything listed on the adult program schedule located on the Main Lodge porch. No need to sign up! The schedule list ‘Open Kayaking’ or ‘Open Tennis’ means a staff member proficient in the activity will be available to provide equipment for you to enjoy on your own. Please do not use any boats or other camp equipment without permission from one of our staff members. Rainy Days: The Children’s Program will be offered in the mornings only and you will be charged accordingly. We will have our ‘Rainy Day option’ listed on the Main lodge porch. Family Adventures: Would you like to do a short hike together as a family? Paddle to the Villa for a picnic or to Casco for ice cream? An overnight camping trip on our property? We are happy to provide ideas, equipment and transportation for group excursions. Private Lessons: We offer private lessons in Archery, Kayaking, Swimming, Tennis, Sailing and Riding. You may book a series of lessons for the whole week or by the day. LESSON RATES:$15/half hour, $25/hour TRAIL RIDES: $15/pp. Social Hour: Runs from 5:00-6:00pm each evening on our Main Lodge porch. We provide hot and cold appetizers. We also offer snacks and beverages (sodas, juice and a special punch!). Please feel free to bring wine, beer or spirits. We can label, store and keep them cold for you to enjoy each evening. The local grocer in Casco has a selection of beer and wine!Evening Program: In the evenings from 6:45-8pm, our staff will offer the following events:Sunday : BINGO in the Main Lodge. Great Camp Arcadia prizes to be won!Monday : CAMPFIRE on the Rock with songs and s’mores.Tuesday : SCAVENGER HUNT and field games for all.Wednesday: PUB QUIZ for the adults. MOVIE NIGHT in the Pine Grove for the younger children.Thursday: TALENT SHOW in the Playhouse. Skits, songs, jokes & special talents are all encouraged! There is a piano in the playhouse for anyone interested.Friday: GALA DINNER in the Dining Room. There will be a dance party afterwards for the children.These regulations apply to all persons using the Waterfront and shoreline of Camp Arcadia. SWIMMING 1.We consider swimming any direct contact, even with hand or foot, with the lake. 2. Swimming is allowed only with a permission from: -The Head of the Waterfront -Camp Arcadia certified Lifeguard 3. No one swims alone 4. Swimming must take place in a supervised area with a lifeguard present at all times. A minimum ratio of 1:10 Lifeguard/Swimmers is necessary for all swimming. This applies to the entire camp season. 5. No swimming is to take place before 9:30am or after 5:00pm without permission from a Camp Arcadia Director. If you wish to have an early morning swim, please talk to us! Thank you. BOATING, CANOEING, SAILING 1. Please see the Head of Waterfront for permission to use a small craft. 2. The ratio of certified Lifeguard/participant must be: Boating: 1:8 Canoeing: 1:8 Kayaking: 1:4 Sailing: 1:6 Windsurfing: 1:3 3. No one is allowed on any dock without permission of the counselor in charge. 4. No one not associated with Camp Arcadia is to land along the Camp shore at any time except in an emergency (e.g: sudden storm). 5. Motorboats may only be used by the Head of Waterfront and other AUTHORIZED personnel. Motorboats are used for safety only. 6. No one may go out in boats after 8:00pm except in an emergency. 7. Please return any equipment used to its proper storage location. 8. Each person must wear a PFD (personal floatation devise) while in any boat (canoe, sailboat, kayak, rowboat or motor boat). 9. There is no standing up or fooling around in any boats at any time. 10. A non-swimmer may go out in a boat under the following conditions: -Accompanied by a counselor with Lifeguard Certication -Wearing a PFD THUNDERSTORM PROCEDURES 1. All Swimmers and Boats must get off the lake at the first sign of thunder or lightening. 2. Everyone should go to the nearest building and remain there until you hear the ALL CLEAR SIGNAL: 1 long blast of the AIR HORN. The ALL CLEAR will be signaled 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder is heard, or lightning sighted.3. No one is permitted to go in or on the water until this ALL CLEAR has been heard. 4. The Head of Waterfront gives the ALL CLEAR to waterfront activities and will notify when it is safe to return to the water. Safety regarding Waterfront activities and swimming is covered by the Arcadia Waterfront Regulations which are attached on page 11. 2. All Waterfront activities will be supervised by a certified lifeguard who has First Aid and CPR certification. 3. First Aid Kits are available in the Main Lodge, the Waterfront, the Stables and the Gatehouse. Their use is under the direction of the Director of Family Camp on duty. Parents are responsible for the administration of First Aid to their children. Epi Pens are available in the First Aid kits. Automatic Defibrillator is in the Main Lodge office. 4. Any trips to the Emergency Room of a hospital will be made by the parents. Directions to Stephens Memorial Hospital are available from the Director of Family Camp on duty. 5. Any trips to visit a doctor will be determined by the family (parents) in charge of the children. Names of clinics are on page 16. Directions are available from the Director of Family Camp on duty. 6. Families will be notified of any extreme emergencies such as a thunderstorm and other bad weather. 7. Should your child participate in an outing or trip in which you do not join, you will be asked to sign a release form to permit medical treatment in case of emergency. These forms will be available from the Head of the Trip. 8. A list of Emergency Telephone numbers is posted in the Main Lodge office. Camp Arcadia uses 911. 9. Emergency Communication is available by the ‘Bug Line’. This will ring continuously in case of a fire. Procedures for emergency weather and fire will be described to the Family Camp Group as a whole. Please sign up for these the night before.Coffee & Tea: Available all day in our Dining Room at the coffee stand.Please let us know if you need a high chair or have special dietary needs. BREAKFAST: (Daily) includes a selection of hot itmes: bacon, sausage, French Toast, banana pancakes, oatmeal, etc. Also available ‘made to order’ breakfast, including omelets. A selection of fresh fruit, yogurts and cereal will also be available on the breakfast bar. LUNCH: Make your own deli sandwiches Vegetarian option: Veggie meat, lettuce & tomatoCookies DINNER: Chicken Korma and Jasmin Rice w/ bowls of chopped peanuts, coconut and chili sauce on the sideVegetarian Option: Vegetable Korma Dessert: Key Lime Pie Airplane We are happy to pick up and return you to the airport. Our staff will meet you at the gate when you arrives, make sure you get your luggage, and help you settle into your lodge. The charge is $50 per family. Driving Our address is 1578 State Route 121, Otisfield, Maine 04270. We are about 2 1/2 hours from Boston and 6 1/2 hours from New York City. Directions: ∼ 95 North to Exit 48∼ Take right onto Riverside Road∼ Continue 2 miles to the intersection with 302∼ Turn left onto Route 302 (W), for about 30 minutes∼ Drive through North Windham and Raymond∼ At light take right onto Rte 121∼ Drive 8 miles on Rte 121 (Meadow Road) to the blinking light (intersection of Rte 121 & Rte 11)∼ Go straight through blinking light∼ Drive one mile to "center" of Casco (Pear’s Ice Cream and AG will be on left)∼ Camp Arcadia is one mile from Casco on the right∼ You will see a brown farm house with a red roof∼ We are the next driveway∼ Please park in Visitor Parking
Mail and Telephone Calls Mail and Packages: Telephone Calls — Should anyone need to reach you during your time at Arcadia please provide them with the following number: 207.627.7294. Our main number, 207.627.4605 should be used on for emergencies.Cell Phones and all electronic equipment — Cell phone service is somewhat limited at Arcadia. Verizon tends to have to best coverage. We do have wireless internet are not responsible for your electronic equipment. We ask that you use all devices sparingly as we are striving to give people a break from the high speed life we all lead.Babysitting: Babysitters are available throughout the week. RATE: $10 per hour.Laundry: We have four washer and dryers, an iron and ironing board.Beer, wine & liquor: Should you want beer, wine or liquor during the week please bring it with you. We can hold it for you, label it and have it ready for social hour.Trash Disposal & Recycling: In your cabins you will find a roll of clear garbage bags that fit the garbage can inside the cabin. Please dispose of your garbage inside your cabin, tie the clear bag,then place it in the outside green trash bin. Should you run out of clear bags let us know. Maine recycles cans and bottles. Please bring your cans and bottles to the Main Lodge for recycling.Camp Store: We will have two times during the week when you can purchase Camp Arcadia clothing, our ribbon belts and key chains. We will inform you when the ‘store’ will be open on those mornings.Billing: We will keep track of your family’s charge throughout the week, including the children’s program, private lessons, babysitting, camp store charges, etc. Final invoices will be available from after lunch on Friday.
