Campers

Our campers, age 8 -18, are from all over the United States and the world. Campers include some former Arcadians and a number of second, third and even fourth generation. Campers live in separate age groups in twenty-three lodges scattered across an open field down to the shores of Pleasant Lake. Each age group has between 16 and 30 campers and 6 and 8 counselors.

Leadership Training

Arcadia offers a five year leadership training program for girls ages 14 - 19. The integrated, progressive program combines a traditional activity program with age appropriate leadership development. The program is open to campers who have been at Arcadia for a while as well as new campers. This is a great program for individuals focused on college acceptance and employment opportunities.

Arcadia Staff are unique and talented people. They range in age from 19-35 years, both men and women, with diverse life experience and education. Some have just completed their first year of college and are dedicated to being a 'big sister and role model' to our campers. We work closely with these individuals to be sure they feel supported in their new roles.

Many of our staff members are former campers and some have also trained for 2 years in our Counselor Training Program. This Arcadian experience and commitment is valued both in our activity and lodge settings. Some of our staff have been with us over 15 years and have dedicated their lives to Camp Arcadia.

We provide a one-week Staff Orientation to prepare each counselor for their role, and for the summer ahead. Time is spent learning traditions, practice teaching, planning for rainy days and most importantly, developing leadership skills. During this week, we ensure staff feel at home with each other, and on our property.

Everyone has a chance to try our activities, learn to build fires, get to know the surrounding trails and make friends for the summer. On opening day, we find our staff feel settled, confident and very excited for the campers' arrival!

We select our staff for their experience and skill in activity areas, but also for their interests in life, their sense of humor, personality and a desire to teach in a rustic setting. Our staff has a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to the well being of children.

Staff come from all over the US, and many from overseas, bringing dynamic cultural backgrounds to the Camp program. On our 4th of July celebrations, we feel proud to have so many countries and states represented in our camp community!

Our website provides you with an overview of our camp, our activity program, trips and more detailed information on our one week program, Week at Arcadia, and our Family Camp.
