Being
at Arcadia was hands down the most difficult thing I've ever done. Being
responsible for the happiness and well-being of so many girls was overwhelming
at first but I ended up loving it. At the end of each day I could point to a
tangible achievement: I taught that girl how to dive, or that one how to
French braid, or helped that one with homesickness. And the girls do not let
you forget how you've helped them, what you've taught them. I love my
relationships with the campers, and living with them in such a beautiful place
created a sort of atmosphere that would be impossible anywhere else. Arcadia's
traditions and the fact that it is an all-girls camp creates a special vibe, a
very pro-girl, fun atmosphere that is enjoyable for both the girls and the
counselors. You can tell that they feel almost more at home at Arcadia than
they do at their real home, and the girls' enthusiasm carries over to the
counselors until you get caught up in it yourself.
Arcadia
is a fulfilling and worthwhile experience, and really the more you put into it
