Meet the Staff

Our staff travels to Arcadia from all over the world, bringing diverse backgrounds and a commitment to helping children discover who they are and where their talents lie. Our staff have a love for and comfort in the out-of-doors and demonstrate a respect and love of camping which they translated to our campers.

Our counselor-to-camper ratio is 1:3. We have approximately 70 staff, 60 female, and 10 male, with 15-18 coming from overseas.

The primary role of our counselors is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our campers so they feel comfortable taking risks, developing independence and developing life skills and have fun. Below are some of the requirements to be on staff at Camp Arcadia.

  • The average age of a counselor is 22 years old.

  • The majority of our staff are returning campers or counselors

  • The applicants must demonstrate strong skills and experience in at least one of our activities

  • Experience in working with and/or teaching children, Certifications required for certain positions. First Aid, CPR, Wilderness First Aid, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, etc.

  • Every potential staff member has an interview over Skype

  • Three references provide written recommendations. We speak with all three

  • Successful criminal background checks, including social security number trace, country criminal search, and national sex offender search, are completed before the applicant is hired

Our counselors, new to us and returners attend an intensive ten-day orientation period immediately before Camp each summer.  We review important elements, including managing the campers in their cabin and in their activities, personal care, and making the summer fun, stress-free and interesting for the campers.  In the orientation, we teach American Red Cross Lifesaving, Wilderness First Aid, test driving skills and focus on how to carry out our goals with each camper.
