Become a Piece of the Puzzle

Andrea Bowen.jpg

Dear Arcadian Family,

My name is Andrea Bowen; some of you would have known me as “Bones” in the 1960s or the person who invented Maine Mud, sales of which benefit the Scholarship Foundation.

Perhaps like you, my experiences at Arcadia helped build the core foundation of my life and have invoked many happy memories of wilderness trips, tennis tournaments, sailing regattas, building pine needle cabins during Sunday Meetings, singing in the dining room, the sound of loons as I fell asleep… just too many to list.

An idea popped into my head, and I want to share it with you.

My dream is to create a project so ALL Arcadians and their families would feel the power of contributing to the greater good of our Camp. Think about it – with a specific tangible goal in mind, by pooling our resources, large and small and even minuscule, we could all have a positive impact for current and future campers. The 2018 Work Weekend group of 22 has raised over $1,024 to help launch this campaign.

I happened to read an article about fundraising a few years ago. In that article, the idea was for everyone to contribute some multiple of the dollar amount corresponding to their current age. It could be half times your age, your age, 2X, 3X, 4X etc. You get the idea. Included on the Camp Wish List found within the Alumnae section of the Camp Arcadia website, are modern/up-to-date trip canoes and a canoe trailer. Some years ago one trip canoe was given by an individual in memory of an Arcadian friend. Think what we could do as a community. Each canoe costs about $1300; times 5 would be $6,500; plus the trailer for about $4,000. The total is $10,500. Each donation, large or small, would help complete our Trip Canoe Jig Saw Puzzle.

You need to be aware that although contributions are not tax- deductible, ALL contribution will help us reach our goal. Any funds raised in excess of our goal will be put toward supporting other items needed for the trip program at Arcadia.

Please join us in this historic effort. Let’s complete this puzzle together and feel empowered

as we do it.

Your Little Arcadian Camper,

Andrea “Bones” Bowen
